Gayane Sahakyan, M.D., is the National Immunization Program Manager of the Republic of Armenia since September, 2006. She graduated from Yerevan State Medical University in 1990. Dr Sahakyan did her residency training in epidemiology at the National Institute of Health in Yerevan. She started her working carrier at the Center of Disease Control and Prevention of Ministry of Health serving in the Immunization Department, leading on surveillance of number diseases including diphtheria and polio, as well as vaccination coverage.
After working as a program officer of the Healthy Living project for five years with collaboration CAFOD- the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales, she returned to State Public Health and until 2006 worked as the TB surveillance coordinator. During this time she was part of the team that conducted scientific researches jointly with CDC, Atlanta, Georgia to improve TB surveillance in Armenia.
She has participated in international meetings and forums for immunizations and immunization advocacy and regularly does teaching and workshops about immunizations.
