August 8, 2013 -- The Seattle-based Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) has agreed to work in tandem with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, to develop a digital notification system to fight tuberculosis in the city.
As per a memorandum of corporation signed with the civic body on Wednesday, BMGF will provide complete technical assistance to develop the system.
The foundation also announced a fund of US $7 million over a period of three years to boost the TB programme.
Digital notification aims to provide an online system wherein doctors can enter complete data — including personal and medical details — of all patients under their treatment. The idea is to create a database of patients, particularly those seeking treatment in the private sector.
