Only half of young men open to getting HPV vaccine: Cost of vaccine, knowledge about shot, and fear of needles contribute to reluctance.

July 24, 2013--The Star reports on the results of new research from a University of Toronto professor, which finds that only half of young men are comfortable with the concept of receiving a human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. In order to conduct the study, Professor Peter A. Newman and his team reviewed global databases for information on the numbers of young men currently receiving the vaccines. They then analyzed reasons why some young men choose to receive or not to receive the vaccine. Reasons included the very high price of the vaccine in some countries, where it is sometimes given free to girls through the public school system, but not to boys.
