An IAIM and WithinReach Learning Experience on Vaccine Hesitancy

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – February 25, 2016 If you’ve been following WithinReach’s social media, you’ve seen that we hosted three guests for a week of vaccine hesitancy learning.  This great honor was bestowed to WithinReach by the International Association of Immunization Managers (IAIM), a program of the Sabin Vaccine Institute (SVI), recognizing the extraordinary quality and quantity of vaccine hesitancy research and programmatic work that has happened in Washington State. Why are we doing this?  Vaccine hesitancy is a universal phenomenon, but it takes different forms in various places, and our strategies for addressing the problem vary—but we have much to learn from each other, both about the origin of the problem, and possible solutions.

AT IAIM CONFERENCE, IMMUNIZATION MANAGERS SHARE CHALLENGES, SUCCESSES

ISTANBUL, TURKEY—March 3, 2015—The International Association of Immunization Managers (IAIM) today assembled nearly 150 of its members from more than 70 countries to discuss how their diverse experiences can inform efforts to improve the performance of national immunization programs.

Immunization is the one of the “best buys” in public health, saving millions of lives each year. Yet, too often, immunization managers — the public health professionals responsible for managing each country’s immunization efforts and ensuring vaccines reach their population — are facing new challenges with limited resources. Therefore, enhancing and developing their management and leadership skills are needed to ensure that their programs achieve outstanding performance. Better performing immunization programs not only transform the health of communities, they can help to strengthen health systems and assist authorities in responding to public health emergencies. In light of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and the re-emergence of polio in the Eastern Mediterranean region, the importance of robust health systems cannot be understated. The IAIM Inaugural Conference is a prime opportunity to foster dialogue between health professionals and exchange best practices in immunization program management.
