July 31, 2013 -- The World Health Organization announced on Monday that it has been informed of an additional case of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus in Saudi Arabia.
The additional laboratory-confirmed case comes from an 83-year-old man from the Assir region in Saudi Arabia. He became ill on July 17 and is currently in the hospital. The WHO noted that a previously laboratory-confirmed case, also from the Assir region, died.
With the most recent death, the toll has now risen to 46 deaths from MERS-CoV with a total of 91 laboratory-confirmed cases.
