Fresh case of dengue fever in Kottakal, health dept steps up vector-control activities

Malappuram: Following reports of dengue fever in Kottakkal, the health department has stepped up vector-control activities in the region.
Recently cases of dengue were reported from Vattamkulam panchayat. Jaundice was also confirmed in over 20 persons in Palappra, Muthur, Vellaparamba and Kavupra, which border Vattamkulam.
In the backdrop of the fresh case in a pregnant woman, local bodies in the region have been directed to step up their activities to prevent the spread of diseases into other areas. The district medical administration has also decided to take action to resolve the shortage in number of doctors at primary health centres. A medical team started preventive measures in the region against spread of disease. The disease spreads through contaminated food and water. The people in the region area have been asked to consult doctors of nearest primary health centres or other hospitals if such symptoms are found.
