Based on experience from many countries, these guidelines provide the rules and recommendations on how to respond to a polio outbreak. They include guidance on how to organize an outbreak response vaccination campaign and how to carry out necessary surveillance. The guidelines also present a timeline indicating the key events that need to take place for a response campaign to happen within the required timeframe.
