Sudan: Vaccines Destroyed By Fire in West Darfur Capital

Substantial stocks of vaccines were destroyed in a fire that broke out in the early hours of Tuesday morning at the immunisation office in El Geneina, capital of West Darfur.

Mubarak Adam Abakar, director of immunisation in West Darfur told Radio Dabanga that the fire destroyed the entire stock kept in cold storage, including routine vaccinations.

Australian Vaccination Network ordered to change name

A decision has been upheld that the Australian Vaccination Network (AVN) must change its name because it is misleading.

AVN, a group which has campaigned against vaccinations, was first ordered to change its name in December last year by the NSW fair trading minister, Anthony Roberts, after NSW Fair Trading received complaints about AVN and ruled its name was unacceptable.

New IDSA Guideline Provides Vaccine Recommendations for People with HIV Infection, Cancer and Other Conditions

People with compromised immune systems–such as those with cancer, HIV infection and Crohn’s disease–are especially vulnerable to illness and most should receive the flu shot and other vaccinations, notes a new guideline released by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Vaccination rates tend to be lower in patients with compromised immune systems in part because their physicians may be concerned about safety and effectiveness.
