Cambodia in first measles-rubella drive

More than one million children and youths up to age 15 in Cambodia have been vaccinated against measles and rubella in a first-time campaign that aims to immunize another three million by the end of December.

Health officials are trying to reach all the country’s children aged nine months to 15 years with the new dual vaccination that tackles the highly contagious measles virus as well as - for the first time in the country - the generally mild rubella (also known as German measles) that can be debilitating for foetuses of infected women.

Brazil to produce measles/rubella vaccine for poor countries

Brazil´s top biomedical research and development center announced plans on Monday to produce a combined measles and rubella vaccine for developing countries, mainly in Africa.

The first Brazilian vaccine developed specifically for export will be made by Bio-Manguinhos, a unit of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

GAVI Alliance helps launch measles-rubella campaign in Ghana

The GAVI Alliance announced on Wednesday that it helped Ghana launch its measles-rubella vaccination campaign.

The campaign is aiming to target over 11 million children in the country of Ghana. Children between the ages of 9 months and 14 years will be able to received a combined measles-rubella vaccination. The campaign is set to run until September 20.
